THAI SENSATION

exhibition of emerging artists from Thailand

A shy smile at the entrance of an extravagant cabaret show. Idyllic farming life-style fading away in the glare of hyper-kinetic urban frenzy. Nationalism side-by-side with idolization of Western prosperity. Buddhist shrines emanating heavenly bliss in the middle of overcrowded shopping plazas. Such are the paradoxes of life evident today in the Kingdom of Thailand.

For the contemporary generation of young Thai artists, these peculiar circumstances present unique challenges and unique opportunities alike. Forced to re-examine their past, allured and appalled by the onslaught of novel temptations, they turn to different media and unusual mixtures of genres, often presenting traditional arts and crafts in an unorthodox or iconoclastic fashion. This exhibition of 6 emerging Thai artists offers a glimpse into the current trends of a rapidly changing culture, steeped in refined sensuality and confronted with riddles from the future, welcoming and enigmatic all at once.

“Despite anything that may happen, the mere power of the mind with its creative thinking, can turn all into a result of faith, hope, and energy which sustains the balance of one's life at present and also in the future”, said Maiitree.
